Julia & Robin Rogers Follow the Glass

by Shannon Bowman

Robin and Julia Rogers discuss what life is like as individual artists; what their work has become through their collaboration; and how having a family has shaped not only their personal lives but their work as glass blowers.

The Rogers are enlivened by the inherent qualities of molten glass; its luminosity, viscosity, and seductive flow.  Their interdisciplinary approach incorporates blown and sculpted glass with electronics, sound, light, shadow, and a host of other materials. Inspiration for their subject matter comes from humanity, nature, science, and the arts. Collaboratively, they meld  ideas into contemplative, intriguing, and thought provoking works.

Through this video, we focus in on their anthropomorphic glass figures and how they represent their lives as artists, but also as a family. With two budding artists at home, the Rogers have managed to follow the glass while keeping their two children in the forefront of their minds and in their art.
