A Conversation with Forte

by Joshua Jackson

Forte is an eight-piece ensemble of trained and versatile musicians, all led by saxophonist and former Norfolk State student Brian Pinner. He describes the group’s sound by asserting “we can play anything, but we’re primarily a jazz band. So if you want to have a four-hour knock-down-drag-out top 40 dance, we’re not the group for you.” The band reinforces their unique sound in their 2009 release “Left Behind at the Train Station” and 2013’s “Chase the Rhythm.”
