Collective Memory

by Shannon Bowman

“Collective Memory” is a metaphoric installation inspired by Homer’s Odyssey. The work is the result of Luisa Adelfio’s recurring interest in symbols, archetypes, architecture and literature as both the reflection of individual memories and the repository for the collective human experience. The installation will be located in the three-story glass atrium entrance known as The Forum which features custom ornamentation by sculptor/architect Kent Bloomer.

Adelfio works in a variety of media including stone, bronze, paper and glass. After studying sculpture at Wellesley College, she earned a degree from the Accademia di Belle Arti in Italy. She is represented by Galeria Otros 360 Grados Bogota’ and has exhibited in New York City, Colombia, Washington, DC and Italy. She currently resides in Norfolk and is actively engaged in the local art scene.

The Slover Library Foundation presents its first art exhibition in the Slover Library since the library’s opening in January 2015. Internationally known local visual artist Luisa Adelfio’s installation “Collective Memory” will be on view in The Forum of the library from December 10, 2015 – January 21, 2016 with Gallery Talks on Fridays, December 18, January 8 and January 15, 12:00 -12:30 PM.
